Tasman Hauler - it’s personal

Ξ May 1st, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Dive Sites |

Tasman HaulerIt was the fourth and final dive of the weekend. I was signed for a combination Nitrox/Wreck Penetration Course through Merimbula Divers Lodge. I was the only girl on the boat and I was nervous. On the short boat trips out to the wreck each day I’d hardly had time to enjoy the beautiful surrounding scenery of the

Sapphire

Coast. An old lighthouse looking down the cliffs, a pod of dolphins in the distance. A half submerged bommie rippling under the blue and small terns diving for fish off to the port side.

Yes, it had been busy, but not overwhelming. We’d used different air mixes, learnt new theory and dived with new goals. We’d practiced with a reel, with our eyes closed, swimming along in complete darkness, feeling our way. And now it was time for the real thing. The penetration of the Tasman Hauler.

Diving closer to Shovelnose Rays

Ξ April 11th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Marine Life |

Sometimes diving at Merimbula Wharf, you can meet this amazing creatures.

the Eastern Shovelnose Ray can be recognised by its wedge-shaped disc, its long triangular snout and its colouration. It is usually sandy-coloured above and may have darker blotches. The lower surface is white with irregular dark flecks.

This species grows to 1.2 m in length. This sort of ray usually stays in the sandy parts of the Wharf… but it is not very easy to spot. If you do, take a good photos and let us know!

5 Dives, 2 days, another Cool Advanced Course.

Ξ April 10th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Diving Courses |

pict0007.JPGThe Advanced Open Water Course is an interesting course, in theory is quite a short course: just 2 days.

But in that 2 days, each diver enjoys 5 dives. Not all of the dives are easy, for sure… and many of them can be challenging.

Personally, I feel very lucky, usually all my open water students, come back to do their Advanced Course with me and last weekend we had a very nice course. Not only everything went perfect, but at the end of the weekend the group was just diving as an group of friends.

People talking about…

Ξ March 28th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Diving Courses |

So these are the testimonies of our Students during March….

The question was: How did your PADI Instructor performed during the course? Are you satisfied with his professionalism?

“Excellent - Gabriel paid attention to all people involved. Advised on all things that happened or could happen. My reaction to this is now instinctive thanks to Gabriel’s training. I was only going to do Open Water as an experience, however I now have to finished the Advanced . I’m hooked on it. ! (Stephen Berry 17/03/08 ) Stephen in fact did his Advanced a few weeks after !

“Very good instructor, helpful, funny. His Professionalism was great, encourages diving well. Recommended to anyone. Followed all appropriate safety standards to ensure we had the best possible course” (Ben Tudor, March 24th - Open Water Student)

“Gab is brilliant and really knows his diving. He has a wide range of experience and knows how to instruct people - he is serious when the situation requires it, but kind when he is safely able to be” (Mark Bugno - March 17. Mark did his Open Water and Advanced recently!)

“Gabriel has helpful, knowledgeable and patient, and made sure we understood what we are doing”
(Alex Spencer - 24/3 )

“Excellent. He explained everything so you could understand easily. We had a great time doing the course, and for sure I would do another course with him…” Gary Johnson (24/3)
